Programs for Kids aged 6 to 11
Monday Meetups for ages 7-11 are all about fun and games. But they are also all about fostering social and emotional well-being in every participant. In every iteration, this program strives to empower each participant through cognitive challenges, positive social interaction, and active learning. Each meetup is planned with micro learning lessons, while still allowing for student choice to drive the direction of the day’s activity in a fun, low pressure environment.
PAWS for Reading
Want to read to a furry friend? Reserve your own special one-on-one 15-minute session to read to our volunteer dog. The PAWS for Reading program builds confidence in reading by using a stress-free environment while reading to a trained therapy dog. Children can bring a book from home or choose one from the library. When choosing a book from the library, please arrive early enough to be ready to read at your reserved time. Participants must be learning to read independently; the PAWS handler will not read to your child. Additionally, multiple family members may not participate at the same time, but caregivers must remain in the library.
Pokémon Read and Play Book Club
The Pokémon “Read and Play” Book Club is for new and experienced “Pokémon Trainers” alike. Each month, participants will read one of the books from the Pokémon chapter book series by Tracey West. We will get together once a month to discuss the book and challenge our story knowledge with an activity. Participants will then have the chance to show off their own Pokémon cards trade and even play the Pokémon Trading Card Game. Participants do not need to have their own trading card collection to participate in this program. Cards will be available to use during the program.
Series Start Read and Play Book Club
The Series Start Read and Play Book Club is the place to find your next favorite series. Best for grades 4-6.
Each month, participants will the first book in a popular book series. We will join up once a month to discuss the book and challenge our story knowledge with an activity. Participants will then have the opportunity to engage in a related game or activity.
Kids' Art Club
Do you like to doodle, paint, build, or just make things? Are you a creative kid who wants to learn more about art but aren’t sure what project to dive into next? Come join us at Art Club! Artists ages 6 to 11 will explore a new artist, technique, material, or method of expression each month to inspire their own work of art. No art expertise required, just bring your own creative spark and curiosity!
Summer Reading Program
During the summer libraries across the nation host additional programming and reading incentives to stop the "summer slide" of academic skills. Our theme this year is Unearth a Story! While there will be plenty of dinosaurs, there will also be other ways to unearth a story.
This summer will feature a series of Snapology STEM programs funded by a PA-EITC grant from our friends at Fulton Bank. We will also support the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and the 150th anniversary of the incorporation of Atglen Borough with several local history programs.
Summer Reading Challenges
- Read & Bead Track your reading time to earn jibbitz or beads that you can put on a cable to wear as a bracelet or hang from a backpack. You will receive a reading tracker and a cable when you register.
- Patch Power Earn embroidered patches to hang on backpacks or sew onto clothes. At-home activities and programs for a total of 3 will earn each patch – it’s that easy!
