Young people will have the opportunity to learn about financial topics — like earning, saving, spending, sharing and budgeting — in a way that is both meaningful and fun through new materials at Atglen Public Library.
Atglen Public Library has been selected to receive a Thinking Money for Kids Program Kit from the American Library Association (ALA) and the FINRA Investor Education Foundation. The Program Kit is a collection of expertly vetted resources to help libraries teach financial education concepts for children ages 3 to 12, both in the library and in children’s homes.
Selected through a national application process, Atglen Public Library is one of 300 libraries to receive this unique offering.
“We are excited to bring the Thinking Money for Kids Program Kit to Atglen Public Library,” said Library Director Robbyn Kehoe. “We encourage parents to visit the library to check-out a Playaway Launchpad tablet to bring home. These brand-new tablets are pre-loaded with fun financial education games. And stay tuned for some creative financial education games for kids to play at the library during the coming months. As a Gold Star Library in the PAForward ® Star Library program, we look forward to bringing these financial literacy programs and materials to the community.”
Playaway Launchpads are kid-friendly tablets designed to continue learning at home, available to check out for three weeks. The Launchpads don’t require a home internet connection and will be available for checkout starting on October 28. Games that are pre-loaded on the Launchpads also have corresponding physical games including Pet Cents, Making Mooo-lah, Currency Conga and Penny Pinchers’ Party. These games will also be available to borrow for three weeks. The Launchpads and games would be perfect activities for financial literacy scout badges and other group activities.
Thinking Money for Kids Launchpads and games will be available through any Chester County Library System member library. They can be reserved and picked up and returned inside of any library, not the outside book drop. Programming using the games will be scheduled soon.
