Our Summer Reading Challenge is open to all ages (yes, even adults). You can earn lampwork beads (think Pandora) and jibbitz for your Crocs just for reading. Reading independently, reading to someone, and listening to an audiobook or to someone read you a story all count toward your minutes. Adults, don't forget to model good reading habits -- and maybe it's time to reacquaint yourselves with reading for pleasure, too?
STEM Spark is returning with two programs on June 17: Light Lab at 2:00pm and Mythological Engineering at 3:00pm. Snapology will present Lego programs on Minecraft on July 22 and Pokémon on August 19, both at 2:00pm.
Art Adventures will investigate different artists from around the world and a variety of materials and techniques. Process art will be emphasized, allowing students to express themselves without the stress to complete a project. There will be two age groups, rising grades K-2 and 3-6, and five stand-alone sessions throughout the summer. Look for these programs on Wednesday afternoons.
Shannon, our Taiji instructor, has developed an introduction to Taiji (Tai Chi) for youth ages 8+. While results may take a longer-term commitment, Taiji can improve coordination, flexibility, and strength while building mind/body awareness.
Thursday's schedule emphasizes literacy skills, with books clubs for Pokémon, Unicorn Academy, and the I Survived series. These are not your mother's book clubs, though: there will be time to play Pokémon, conduct battles, or make friendship bracelets after book discussion. The book lists will be available when you register, and participants are expected to have read the book before the meeting.
Not your little sister's Story Time, Story Lab will feature several read-alouds followed by a related activity for rising grades K-2. Think owl pellets and building the three little pigs' houses. Hearing stories aloud helps students build vocabulary, and who doesn't like listening to a great story?
Pre-K PlayKrew is back for our younger friends. PlayKrew uses play to introduce literacy, social, and sensory skills. Picture the program room turned into a grocery store for dramatic play, where children take turns shopping and ringing each other out.
Your favorite school-year programs will continue right through the summer: Itty Bitty Beats, Mini Music-Makers, Monday Meetups, and PAWS for Reading. Most adult programs will continue on their regular schedule as well.
Registration is expected to open on May 10 for all summer programs. Check our website and Facebook page for announcements.
