Very Young Children

We are a proud Play & Grow library!

The Play and Grow Pennsylvania Libraries initiative was designed to expand and support small and rural libraries and librarians in serving the families in their communities. This program builds on the knowledge that early learning, parental involvement, and supportive communities play a critical role in a young person’s growth and development. The program empowers participants with knowledge in early childhood brain development, mindfulness and social emotional learning, and developing programming and engaging environments for children ages 0-5 and their caregivers, and collection development aligned to developmental milestones and early literacy skills.

Itty Bitty Beats: Join Ms. Ashley each week for a musical bonding experience! This class is geared especially for infants and toddlers ages 0-2 AND their loved one, an adult-child pair. Together, we will giggle, bounce, dance and make music through shared multisensory experiences. Wednesdays at 10:30am.

PreK PlayKrew: PlayKrew meetups are anchored to the idea of whole child learning by creating a space that nurtures social emotional development, language skills and cognitive growth, all of which contribute to Kindergarten readiness. Four weekly rotations of dramatic play, sensory play, building play, and games and puzzles. Best for ages 3 to 5 years. Sensory play involves small parts and is not appropriate for children under 3.

Music and Movement: Join Ms. Maureen for some moving and grooving! Best for ages 2 to 3 years. Caregivers, please remain with children and join the fun!  Mondays at 10:30am.

Story Time & Craft: Ms. Maureen reads themed stories and a related craft. Best for ages 3 to 5 years. Caregivers are to please remain near their children. Thursdays at 10:30am.

Due to limited space, registration is required for all participants, adults included, to ensure that everyone can enjoy a full experience. Children must be supervised at all times by their adult. If your child isn't ready for the day's session, please feel free to try again the next week.

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten

The goal is to have read 1,000 books (yes you can repeat books) before your precious one starts kindergarten. Read a book (any book) to your newborn, infant, and/or toddler. If you read just 1 book a night, you will have read about 365 books in a year. That is 730 books in two years and 1,095 books in three years. If you consider that most children start kindergarten at around 5 years of age, you have more time than you think (so get started). We provide tracking sheets, stickers to commemorate milestones, and an embroidered patch when you reach 1,000! You can also track your progress on our Beanstack app.
