Summer Reading Club

To encourage children to read over the summer and to maintain their skills, participating students receive a themed package of reading logs and stickers, bookmarks, and themed activities. Participants record the amount of time they read each day and check-in periodically by presenting their logs here at the Library. Passive activities, such as a guessing jar or survey response, are available at check-in. 

Patch Power encourages in-depth exploration on a chosen topic. The Patch Power activity cards provide suggestions for themed activities that encourage children to read, connect, and discover. After completing the activities at home, participants present their activity cards to earn a high-quality embroidered patch that can be sewn onto their swag bag or backpack

Summer Enrichment Mini-Camps

In addition to programming that supports the summer reading theme, APL also offers mini-camps in various STEAM subjects, such as architecture, coding, space science, music composition, and fabric art. These afternoon programs for grades 3-5 and 6-8 provide enrichment and encourage youth to explore areas of interest they might not have time for during the school year. These mini-camps support academic achievement by reinforcing basic skills and providing integrated, cross-cutting concepts and real-world application of how these skills can be used (e.g., math, measurement, and geometry needed for quilting). We contract with professional providers with a set curriculum, such as certified teachers, Snapology(r), and STEMSpark.
