Summer Reading at the Library
During the summer, libraries across the nation host additional programming and reading incentives to stop the "summer slide" of academic skills. Our theme this year is Unearth a Story! We have a variety of special programs on tap, along with many of your school-year favorites.
Special Programming
We will celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence with a Dare to Declare! discussion of the drafts and compromises preceding the final version followed by a reading of the Declaration of Independence on Saturday, June 6. You can also visit all of the CCLS member libraries for their Bells Across Chester County displays. Pick up a passport for all the details.
We will also help to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the incorporation of Atglen Borough with But Nothing Ever Happened Here on Thursday, June 25. Learn about a few of the contributions the Atglen area has made to agricultural, railroad, and forensic history.
Sundays in the Park will return to Atglen Borough Hall Park on June 14, July 12, and August 9 from 1:00 to 4:00pm. Yesterday's News Band will provide live music with hits from the 60s, 70s and 80s. Tell us your wish for America's 250th Anniversary for our Wish Wall. Lawn games, kid activities, and of course, the awesome play facilities will make it day of fun and relaxation for the whole family. Bring a blanket or chairs
Snapology: Building Confidence Through Hands-On Learning Using LEGO(R) bricks, K'Nex and Technology
Snapology STEM programs will be held on Thursday afternoons from 2:30 to 4:00pm at Penningtonville Presbyterian Church for ages 5-11. This STEM series is funded by Fulton Bank through a PA-EITC grant. Thank you!
Monday Meetups, Story Lab, Read and Play Book Clubs, and summer versions of The Tuesday Shift are funded by a generous grant from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation. Thank you!
Itty Bitty Beats and PreK PlayKrew for the wee set and most adult programs will continue with their regular schedules.
Read & Bead Summer Reading Challenge
Track your reading time to earn jibbitz or lampwork beads that you can put on a cable to wear as a bracelet or hang from a backpack. You will receive a reading tracker and a cable when you register.
Patch Power
Earn embroidered patches to hang on backpacks or sew onto clothes. Complete programs and at-home activities for a total of 3 to earn each patch – it’s that easy! We have four new patches for our nation's 250th anniversary, and patches from previous years are still available. Collect them all!
Click on each patch to learn the activities needed to earn it. Print it out and bring in your work to us to receive your patch. You can see all of the available patches and select activity cards here at the Library, too.
